In the share this week:
1 bunch beets or 1 bag sugar snap peas
2 small bok choy
1 bunch salad turnips
1 bunch spring onions
1 bunch green onions
1 bunch swiss chard
1 bag salad mix
1 head little gem lettuce

Thoughts from Farmer Anna:
As promised, here is an update picture of the baby chickens taken yesterday! Their feathers are really growing in and they are impressive fliers around which makes me a little nervous about keeping them out of the garden. We've found that they love greens! Lettuce, swiss chard, kale, bok choy, chickweed, dandelion, etc, etc. They get excited when I put a big pile in the brooder for them. We have also taught them to eat mealworms out of our hands, which is great because they had previously been afraid of us and our hands every time we opened the top to the brooder. Now, they love hands :) I'm planning to move them out of the brooder and into a chicken tractor this weekend, so we'll see how that process goes! I think they will be very excited to have access to pasture and all of the plants and bugs that go with it.

In other news, our oldest kiddo is back at it helping us on harvest mornings. I snapped this pic of him this morning digging out spring onions for shares. Last year was his first time helping out in a bigger way on the farm and it's awesome to see how much more capable and responsible he is this year! He has grown so much in all the ways and I'm proud of how he is really ready to work hard. We are actually enjoying the sun and heat this week, since it means that the warm weather crops are really starting to put on growth. The summer squash and zucchini have started blooming and the cucumbers aren't far behind - those may start appearing in shares in a couple of weeks. The tomatoes are putting on some great growth and have lots of small green fruits that will be sizing up over the coming weeks.
The share this week is definitely still spring-time mode, but some really beautiful veggies. The salad turnips in particular look amazing this week, along with the small bok choy! We struggled with slugs earlier in the spring and it's nice to see these crops looking so good this time around. For our farm lunch today I made a big stir fry with so many farm veggies: peas, bok choy, radishes, onions, and kale. I think that would be an awesome way for you to use a lot of your share veggies too! I like to make a simple sauce combining 2 parts tahini (or other seed or nut butter), 1 part soy sauce and 1 part lemon lemon juice. You can thin it out with a little water if it's too thick.
Alrighty - I think that's all from me for now. I'm a little late getting the newsletter out since we went out for a concert last night - Allison Krauss and Union Station - amazing show! Hope you all have a great week!
