In the shares this week:

1 bok choy
1 bunch Daikon radishes
1 bunch red radishes
2 green bell peppers
1 small garlic
1 bag green beans
1 bag spicy salad mix

Thoughts from Farmer Anna:
It's fall on the calendar this week, it's fall in the weather forecast and it's fall in the veggie shares too! We have a big change up this week, with more greens and fall root crops coming on, in addition to everyone's favortie winter squash - the butternut!
The cool and cloudy days have been just wonderful this week. The only downside is that it makes me want to take a nap :) Work has slowed down significantly, but we are still getting some weeding done, cleaning out spent crops, and turning over some of the last few fields to get winter cover crops sown.
One reason I'm so happy about the cooler temps this week is that it is finally soup weather! Today for farm lunch I made a butternut squash soup with onions, peppers, garlic, tomato puree, some beans blended into it and curry flavors. It was delish! Butternut is great for soup, but is also fabulous roasted. I'm thinking you could roast the butternut along with some radish (either the Daikon or red radish) in this salad recipe:
Speaking of the Daikon - we are really excited about this mini variety. This is our first year growing this radish and the fall planting has done quite well. You'll notice that the radishes don't appear to be very small, but they are mini compared to a full size daikon, which can reach up to 18 inches long! These roots have a mild flavor (similar to our salad turnips), but a little crunchier texture. They store well and are really versatile and can be used in many different ways. Here are some ideas:
Our final planting of green beans is on this week and they look fabulous! A warm garlicky green bean side dish sounds like just the thing this week:
Hope you all are enjoying the change in weather this week too! Fall has finally arrived :)
