1.2 lbs red tomatoes
1 medium garlic
Sweet pepper mix
Hot pepper mix
1 lb mixed eggplant
1 bag carrots
1 bunch cilantro
1-2 sunflower stems
Thoughts from Farmer Anna:
I'll be honest, I'm feeling a little cranky this week. I'm really just over the heat. It's been a struggle to keep all the baby fall plantings watered during this hot, dry spell. I'm trying to look on the bright side and to remember that cooler days are indeed coming, but feeling a little behind on what needs to get done because it's just too hot and dry to get much done.
Thankfully, we have a beautiful bed of sunflowers to help brighten our days! We planted these beauties hoping they would be blooming in time for this time when our summer crops are slowing down and the fall crops aren't quite ready. Looks like our timing was just about perfect and we have a few little blooms to share with you all this week. If you keep them in water and change it every couple of days, they should look nice on your counter for about a week.
The other exciting thing that's on this week is - Cilantro! It's tough to have this on at the same time as tomatoes since cilantro really doesn't love heat. Thankfully, leading up to this week, the weather has really been fairly mild and the cilantro looks just perfect. We are bummed that the heat this week will limit how long we'll be able to harvest from this planting, but you can't have it all. We wanted to get you some garlic and hot peppers this week so you can make a delicious pico de Gallo. Depending on your spice preference, you can add 1, 2 or more of the hot peppers. Follow a recipe like this below, but feel free to improvise:
The sweet peppers have been just an amazing crop for us this year and we've been happy to have them for you for so many weeks! Right now we are loving just eating lots of them raw with hummus, but they are also perfect for stir fries and would be a fun pair with your eggplant this week:
