Thoughts from Farmer Anna:

August! The back to school events are already happening this week and it feels like all of that frenetic energy will be ramping up over the next few weeks. I think I need to make some time for back to school shopping this week! As for the farm, it continues to be a really wonderful growing season. We've had very consistent rain this year and the temperatures haven't been too hot for too long. I think we can look forward to continued awesome summer crops for the next month or more. The fall crops are all going in the ground and most of those are coming up and establishing pretty well!

The weather has been cooperating with my canning schedule lately. We've had some cooler cloudier weather on weekends and I don't feel so bad heating up the kitchen cooking down tomato seconds (like those pictured above) or turning on the oven to make our roasted salsa. I've learned over the years which canned products we really use lots of and we've done our best to keep ourselves stocked for the year. I think we ended up using our last jar of canned tomatoes from last year the same week we put a new batch in the canning pot. There's a chance that we'll end up with additional seconds tomatoes for canning (after all the farmers get their take), so let me know if you may be interested.

After a short dip in ripening up, the tomatoes are back on in a big way this week, so everyone is getting at least 1.5 lbs. I found this recipe for a delicious sounding dip that combines eggplant, sweet peppers and tomato. It may be a fun one to try this week!

Carrots are back on this week as well. This is from our second planting (well actually our third planting - the second one was a bit of a disappointment), and they are looking pretty fab. We have been eating a lot of veggies raw with hummus lately. Carrots, cucumber and sweet pepper are an awesome trio on the veggie snacking tray.

Alrighty, I think I'm going to sign off here. Hope you all have a great week!
